I started tattooing in 1990
at the Thinkin Ink in Fairmont. At the time, Youngen
(the owner of all the Thinkin Inks) was the only one
tattooing in the area. I started hanging out all the
time when I wasnt in class. I thought he would get upset
if I just kept coming around and watching, so I started
drawing patterns for people. The next thing I knew, I
was folding towels and sweeping the floor. That
eventually lead to preping people and running the
sterilizer.
After a year or so of
that, I guess Youngen figured I wasnt going to go away,
so he asked me if I wanted to be an apprentice. I took
about 2 seconds to answer!
I learned all I know about tattooing from
Youngen, and I sure am glad he gave me a chance. I was a
punk back then--literally AND figuratively. It's been a
wild ride since then. Youngen has 5 shops now, and has
taught numerous people to tattoo. I love my job and I
hope to still be tattooing when I'm 90 years old!
